Monoids and groups, subgroups, quotient groups and group homomorphisms: groups acting on sets, conjugacy and the class equation; the Sylow theorems; free groups; finitely generated Abelian groups. Prerequisites: MA523 or equivalent. Exclusions: MA425, MA686E or equivalent.
